W.D. Richter is best known to fans as the director and producer of cult film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984). This film - "hard to top for pure, nutty fun"[1] - owes its style and clever substance to the collaboration between Richter and screenwriter Earl Mac Rauch.
The official Banzai newsletter, World Watch One, and its semi-official successors, often featured contributions from the fan-friendly Richter.[2]
Richter is also known for writing the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and the 1979 Dracula, as well as the Oscar-nominated Brubaker (1980) and Big Trouble in Little China (1986).
