W.D. Richter is best known to fans as the director and producer of cult film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984). This film - "hard to top for pure, nutty fun" - owes its style and clever substance to the collaboration between Richter and screenwriter Earl Mac Rauch.
Richter is also known for writing the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and the 1979 Dracula, as well as the Oscar-nominated Brubaker (1980) and Big Trouble in Little China (1986).
