Canon Overview
Dante and Vergil are twin brothers with half-demon, half-human heritage that were separated at a young age after the death of their mother. The pair have a deeply complex rivalry, with Vergil embracing his demonic side on a quest for more power, and Dante embracing his humanity and becoming a demon-hunter.
Dante and Vergil’s relationship is extremely volatile, with most of their interactions being fights (sometimes to the death), but they ultimately seem to respect each other, as seen in the endings of Devil May Cry 3 and 5. Post DMC5, the two are seen working together and seemingly having made up.
