Fannish Roots

I keep trying to find the spot when I became fannish. Tracking back to a weird crush on Spock at primary school, I think fannishness came as factory standard with my model.

At 13, I got hooked on Doctor Who, a show that had been off the air for ten years. My introduction had been the New Adventures tie-in novels. Had I "turned left" I would now be a Sherlock Holmes addict. It was the reason I picked up the book - the Doctor teamed with Holmes and Watson sounded pretty nifty - I didn't pick up on the Lovecraftian features until quite a few fandoms later.

This shifted a bit, I got into comics and am a huge fan of words with pictures. My primary fandom is the X Men, with my favourites being Nightcrawler, Northstar, Kitty and Wolverine. To those who know - I have a complete run of first series "New Mutants" and "Alpha Flight". I take comics on their own terms, every book you pick up could be your route to happiness. I do read anything that looks like a good time, irrespective of badge and name.

I ended up in Due South after finding it in a list of "insane in the brain" fandoms. The only insanity was the Ray Wars and they stopped ten years ago. It's a lovely, warm and friendly fandom. This is where most of my output now lays, with a smattering of peculiar crossovers and anything else where I can find a story to be told.

I have the feeling I've been rabbitting for far too long.

Fannish Strengths

I'm becomming a research nut and collect links on del.icio.us to this point (if you share a fandom - particularly due South - they might be interesting).

I have an obsession with small details, posters on the walls, the location of the Twinkie factory in Chicago, and places where Jack Harkness has died.

Current Activities

On the fannish front, all I can say is that I'm working on an Alternate Universe that spells Transformative Works, or so I hope.

Otherwise, I like archaeology and cross-stitching, things that don't really come up in fanfiction.
