Description

From a flyer:

UNIVERSE Is a fanzine devoted to the creation & exploration of its own special universe. At present, this universe is only partially planned out. If you are a writer or artist, PLEASE contact me! There are a number of series that need stories, and there are even more openings for new series or stories—and, so far, there are at least 12 planets to choose from as a setting.

Samples of your work—art or writing—would be appreciated, as would be a letter stating -what you like to write best (or draw), and/or any series/stories that you'd like to see in print. Artists, if you like to draw superheroes, this is your big chance—contact me.

Also: our very own WRITERS GUIDE is free to writers/artists whose work I have seen/printed/approved of—otherwise, the cost per copy is $1.00.

Issue 1

Universe 1

Issue 2

Universe 2

  • The End Shall Come, fiction by Michael Heyes ("How did Victor Bergman, Paul Morrow, and David Kano die? In an unexpected encounter with an enemy of almost 30 years before.")
  • Thunder Agents: Prelude to Invasion, fiction by Dave Jones and Chris Swinea ("What happens when, on their first leave in a long time, a band of super-powered UN Agents encounter a scoutship of an invading fleet? To put it mildly, CHAOS!")
  • Echoing Prisons, fiction by Sandra Necchi ("The Yrini believed themselves alone in a vast, unfriendly universe. So they took steps to provide some company.")

Issue 3

Universe 3 was published in 1979 or before.

  • Anathoth, fiction by Frank Panucci ("An Infinite World concept/series. One culture, through war, wipes itself out. The only "survivors" are two genetic complexes, one a factory for the production of males, the other for females—and both damaged. The results are males and females born with an instinctive hatred for the opposite sex.")
  • Thunder Agents: Invasion, fiction by Dave Jones and Chris Swinea ("The Thunder Agents return to New York to report their recent close encounter, and find that the Jaron Invasion Fleet is already beginning the subjugation of the entire planet.")
  • Starship Destiny: ISZM, fiction by Dave Jones ("The second SD story (at last!). The out-of-control Destiny Is finally halted and pulled into orbit over an unknown planet. All goes well — until crew members begin to vanish, and other strange things occur.")
  • Info Centre ("Questions that you, the reader, come up with, on UNIVERSE and its universe.")
  • a wraparound poster (17x11) features some of the characters from Anathoth
  • zine ads and reviews, preview pages, "Lastword" #3 and #4
