Uncertain Times was a Cardassia-centric Star Trek: Deep Space Nine multimedia fanzine published in August 2018 in print form. The fanzine was distributed via a dedicated Tumblr and in person at Star Trek Las Vegas 2018. In December 2018, the zine was made available for free online.
History
The idea for a Cardassia-specific zine was developed in a private DS9 Discord chatroom by Sally Sorrell and stunnerstorm. Calls for submissions went out in March 2018, and the dedicated Tumblr was created in May 2018, with Sally Sorrell organizing submissions and stunnerstorm compiling and typesetting the fanzine. Collaboration was a key feature of the works produced - often, authors would help each other out via the dedicated public zine Discord chatroom, or through collaborative editing in Google Docs. In addition, the fanartists involved in the creation of the zine worked to ensure that no fic published to the zine was left without fanart to accompany it. The greatest example of this collaboration is seen in the front page, which was worked on by 4 separate artists - Stunnerstorm, Rowan, Weyoun, and Sheva..
Contents
The zine itself was 132 pages long, containing both fanfiction, fannish non-fiction and fanart, with the front cover designed by Stunnerstorm, Sheva, Rowan and Weyoun. The works were posted in chonological order, starting with "All That I Am or Hope To Be", which was set in 2376, and ending with "We Did Not Know", set in 2488.
