two creams, one sugar is a series of Mad Max: Fury Road coffee shop AU fanfics that include the story Blood, Coffee, & Motor Oil. Furiosa/Max is the main focus, but the stories also include Capable/Nux. These fics were posted soon after the movie's release and became incredibly popular, with Blood having 27350 hits as of June 2018.

small town setting, Furiosa is the local mechanic, too much a black sheep in town to be having the easiest time of it. Max is working the local coffee shop, for something to do and a soft place to land while he recovers from raging PTSD incurred during his police work, and Citadel, Australia, is about as small and sleepy a place as it's possible to get, right? The Wives are the residents of a rather discretely run home for abused women that Furiosa supers for when she isn't in her shop. The lesbian separatist feminist motorcycle gang is literally just that.[1]

Reactions and Reviews

Do my eyes see a Coffee Shop!AU? This is so great, you are hitting all the characterizations right on the head! I also love the back story and the way you wrote so little actual dialogue, just like in the movie (at least it feels that way?) Thank you so much for writing! I'm really lookong forward to seeing more of this! -UniversesVisiting

This was amazing. I'm going to have to read it again and again, but I really loved spotting the parallels. They were so well inserted! It felt so natural to just slide them in (like Furiosa needing to take off the prosthetic belt, I can't remember in which scene). I love your portrayal of the wives, and the dynamic between Nux and Max. The pace was perfect too--the whole thing felt like the movie did: quiet and chugging along sometimes, like life goes, and then boom bang action. Thank you so much for this beautiful work. I hope you have a lovely day and pat yourself on the back! You're a fantastic human being and I need to go cry now. -Christine

You did a really nice job with this, with giving us as much resolution as you might get in the real world which isn't all that much. Even though Furiosa was still an utter badass in this world, it felt real and weighty that it happened so fast and didn't even have the satisfaction of it being more than two flunkies who did so much damage and caused so much aftermath. I loved that, as in the movie, Max's most important role is in the medical care and support that Furiosa's really needs. It was a simple touch but "Max hangs up before she does." hit me in such a good way; you've really made them partners here in such a believable way without the extraordinary stresses of the movie. -topazera
