Reactions and Reviews
Two is Company is set in the TOS universe. The story takes place after a mission has gone disastrously wrong and Kirk has lost two crewmen. He‘s left feeling he could have done something to prevent it and experiences doubts about his command decisions, which have left him stressed. When shore leave is scheduled, Spock uses contacts to enable the Enterprise crew to take it on the picturesque vacation planet of Teelousia, which the author really brings to life in a wonderful series of descriptions, making it feel beautifully alien. The characterizations worked well for me. We see Kirk as distressed and a very confident and assertive Spock (making a nice change from the often almost virginal, reticent Vulcan he‘s often portrayed as). The dialogue worked really well for me too - both very much in character. The story flows beautifully and the language is wonderfully descriptive, all in all making this a superior story.
I adore First Time stories and anyone who does will love this -- a highly recommended read! [1]
