Trek Fest was a con attended by about 1000 people. The Guest of Honors was Brent Spiner who portrayed Data.
Con Report
This was no glamour con, got it? Just a small dealer's room, an equally small "mam event" room and ... get this ... no programs! (Programs? We don't need no stinkin' programs!) It made Creation Cons look like fan run cons. At least Creation guarantees ail con attendees a seat (it may not be a close one, but...) About 90 per cent of what few seats there were available at this con were "reserved seating" (an extra $10 each for a total ticket of $29). Can you say SRO (standing room only), boys and girls? They opened with an auction. Wow. I'm thrilled. How original, i will give the auctioneer credit, though. I especially enjoyed the time when he got the whole audience to say "Odo photo." A crowning moment. A trivia contest followed. Gee, I wonder who they get their ideas from?...
[snipped]
A costume contest followed - small potatoes compared to what I've seen at other cons. A Klingon and Borg were most notable, and although they weren't the best I've seen, they had the best costumes there. (So call me a con snob.)
Now, the main event was approaching. We were informed that in order to ask Brent a question, you had to line up behind one of two mikes at either side of the seats. Now this, 1 thought, is actually a pretty good idea. Many times at conventions you can't hear what the question is. True, sometimes the guest repeats the question. But, sometimes they don't. [1]
