Trek-a-Con was a Star Trek convention held in Chattanooga, TN. It was a free con hosted by WDSI-TV 61.

Trek-a-Con 1

Trek-a-Con II

This con was held April 24, 1987 at the Chattanooga Trade Center.

A fan's con report was published in The DeForest Dispatch #13:

My friend, [Mary C], and I had the opportunity to attend Trek-A-Thon II in

Chattanooga, where the special guests were DeForest Kelley and Walter Koenig. The con was a one day FREE con hosted by WDSI-TV 6l. The doors opened at 10:00 a.m. to the con room (a banquet hall in the Chattanooga Trade Center), where all the day's activities took place. At one end was a large screen TV where TV 6l was 1 playing ST all day so fans could go and watch their favorite shows plus they kept doing live updates and interviews from the con. On the other end of the room was a stage where the stars would conduct their question and answer sessions. Behind the stage was a reproduction of a starship bridge you could tour and where stars went for a photo session. All of this with a dealers room in the middle! We al1 got a special surprise when Majel Barrett showed up and talked with us
about ST: The Next Generation. She also sat at her Lincoln Enterprise table and
gave autographs to fans. Next was the moment Mary and I had been waiting for. De was next to appear on stage! He had been walking around the con room talking to the TV personnel, so I had already seen him but I was still anxious to hear him. As always, he was WONDERFUL!! He started out by reading "Big Bird's Dream" then he did a question and answer session with the fans. I did finally get up enough nerve to raise my hand but when he called on me I wasn't sure if I could speak or not, however I did manage to squeek "Sue Keenan said to give you her best regards." De then explained to the audience (and I more or less quote), "Sue Keenan is my fan club lady" and he asked me to give her his love! (Boy, Sue, you really rated. I think I'm jealous.) He took a few more questions then before he left he introduced his lovely wife, Carolyn. Walter was next on stage with a question and answer session that I also enjoyed very much. A costume contest followed that rounded out the day's activities.

It was all over much too soon, but 1 am grateful to see De in person. He was as warm and wonderful as I remembered him to be, plus so much more that just can't be put into words. Thank you, De, for sharing a special part of yourself with us.
