"Too Little to Bite "[1] is a short story written by Daegaer based on the first book from Mary Renault's Alexander Trilogy, Fire from Heaven The story was written for Yuletide 2009 as a present for alexcat. It fleshes out a scene mentioned rather than shown in the novel, in which the child Alexander rescues a puppy from drowning, making the dog his pet. The small puppy subsequently grows into a large Molossian hound.
Comments received on the story include:
- I adore the story. I have loved Mary Renault's Alexander since I was about 13 years old and your story certainly hit the spot. I love gapfillers and your is perfect. I can imagine little Alexander being such a child. I can't thank you enough. This was one of the nicest gifts that I got!. [2]—alexcat
- I love the tale you've woven here from just a few lines of the source. Beautiful missing scene and a great glimpse of young Alexander. ''[3]—ruric
