– TomoChoco Podcast on Apple Podcasts

TomoChoco Podcast was launched in December of 2017 with one simple goal: create a space to discuss yuri anime and manga where queer individuals could feel welcome and find a voice in the discussion. Three years later, hosts Kit and Sarah continue to strive toward that goal by making a podcast that's inclusive, funny, and allows queer individuals to share their views on yuri works.[2]

Reactions and Reviews

As someone new to the scene it’s been illuminating to learn about Yuri from two hosts who obviously are mega fans! Can’t wait for them to light up my feed every new episode! [3]

"I'm kinkshaming," one host said, and I gave up on this podcast, hurt and angry. I wanted to like it so much; I'd been faithfully listening since March. A yuri podcast by queer women for queer women! But it's not for this queer woman. They focus so much on the negative and seem to hate almost every trope and kink and don't seem to understand how other people could like those things. Broad assumptions are made (doujinshi equal bad, for example, and I thought we were past assuming self-published works and fanworks were bad in 2019,) and they don't seem to mind mocking people who do like the stuff they hate (even intimate acts! Such a personal thing!) (see latest episodes as of this review.) If your tastes align with theirs and you like looking at the negative and think there's nothing wrong with saying "I'm kinkshaming," then knock yourself out, you'll probably like it. But the hosts made me feel awful about myself, so much in the last episode I couldn't even finish it. I was extremely disappointed. Queer women aren't a monolith, but they certainly act as if we are. [3]

It’s a joy to listen to Kit and Sarah. I wish I had found their show earlier and could have been along for the ride from the outset, instead of shortly before new episodes went on a hiatus. Personally I particularly enjoyed the Saeki Sayaka series of episodes, and their series on Our Dreams at Dusk. It’s so cathartic to hear them as invested in these characters as I feel while reading. They are truly kindred spirits in these trying times, and I hope to hear more from in the future. [3]

As a newcomer to Yuri and anime/manga in general I find it to be entertaining, even without a lot of prior knowledge of tropes and general Japanese culture. Each episode features a work (sometimes multiple episodes, volumes or even seasons) that's in the Yuri Genre or Yuri- adjacent. Then there's a loose structure to the rest of the podcast:
-Gay stuff they're excited about
-Brief Synopsis
-Things they didn't like (although a lot of times this not necessarily all negative or bad)
-Things they liked
-Would you reccommend this to someone else?
-Social Media Plugs & what's next

Listen to this podcast if you like puns, yuri or just want to listen to two queer friends talk about (generally) nerdy things in a casual only sorta-structured way.[3]
