Togainu no Chi is a BL visual novel created by Nitro+CHiRAL in 2005.
The game was originally released on the PC, and later re-released on the PS2 and PSP featuring new characters and artwork. After the PC release, several Drama CDs were produced, in addition to an anime and manga adaptation.
In February 2020, Togainu no Chi was released for the first time in English, available on PC through Steam.
Canon Overview
The game takes place in post-apocalyptic Japan and follows Akira, a young man who is successful in street-fighting games. When Akira is falsely accused of the murder of a fellow contestant and sentenced to death, a mysterious woman offers him his freedom if he participates in a tournament called "Igura" and takes down the "King" who has ran it unchallenged since its start.
Characters
Fandom and Pairings
Artwork from the games was shared fairly widely on yaoi imageboards and gallery sites in the mid-2000s, which is how most Western fans likely found the game. Scanlation and other fan-translating activities were very common, prior to and even after the release of the English manga by TokyoPop in 2009.
As a BL title, yaoi and slash pairings make up the overwhelming majority of the fanworks produced.
