Reactions and Reviews

My enjoyment of this original and imaginative story was impaired by a few elements that I found to be unrealistic. For example. I just can't believe that Spock, or anyone, could have been so attracted to an unconscious body, even Kirk's. Without the dynamism of consciousness, the movement of the shoulders, the look in the eye, the way a person breathes or talks, so much is hidden. What's there to be attracted to? While I do believe in attraction at first sight, the author took Spock's reaction far beyond that. It just didn't feel real to me, and I think even alternate universe stories still have that responsibility. Perhaps a more fully developed explanation of the attraction, maybe related to the disintegration of Spock's relationship with Shar. would have helped me over this hurdle. I wish that Kirk had appeared sooner in the story. And I still don't understand why he wasn't put under house arrest at least, when he helped Khan in his rebellion. Yes. he ended up turning against Khan, but that's not how he started. It seems to me that it would have been 'logical' for the Vulcans to be a lot more wary of Kirk than they were. [1]

This author writes with great dramatic intensity and feeling. Her characters are strongly written and right on target. I couid really feel Khan come alive once again. In this story we see Spock, captain of the Enterprise, who is to be bonded to his first officer, a man he cares for but does not deeply love or desire. Along comes Khan with his band of rebels and from Spock's first iook at Kirk, who is unconscious at the time, something stirs in him that he cannot deny, no matter what the circumstances. Kirk also feels himself responding to the tall, dark captain even though he feels a certain responsibility toward Khan. The plot is exciting and well-written and even though we assume/hope that Kirk and Spock will end up together it's still fun to watch the story unfold before us. This was an excellent and suspenseful a/u story. Ms. Coventry also writes some of the best sex scenes in K/S fandom. [2]
