Reactions and Reviews
This story, like many of this author‘s stories, is technically not K/S, as that is not her genre, but since I‘ve always felt that K/S stories are never about the sex anyway, I felt it deserved a review. Because while there may be no physical relationship between the two, the emotional element, which is what K/S is all about anyway, is very much present. And THAT is what makes a K/S story a K/S story, as has been the case right from the beginning. This story is based on the challenge, or prompt, ―Five times Spock did something illogically dangerous for the sake of his captain, and the one time his captain returned the favor. The author describes the story as ―Six watershed events in Kirk and Spock's lives and relationships – The aftermath of Conscience of the King and Dagger of the Mind, their first mind-meld, the aftermath of Amok Time, what happened after The Motion Picture, the time between The Voyage Home and Spock's complete return to normality, and (I totally admit uncanonical except in my head and heart) Spock's death in the XI universe.‖
I won‘t get into the details of each installment, but I will say that while they each stand on their own, in combination they reflect the love, understanding, and acceptance these two men have always felt for each other, and the author has done an exceptional job bringing those elements to life. She has created a marvelous tale that is both gripping and heartfelt. And while, as I said before, this story cannot be classified as slash, the deep bond these two share is very much evident, so much so it really doesn‘t matter there‘s nothing physical going on. Sometimes there can be a very fine line between slash and gen stories, and this author knows how to walk that line, so much so her stories can appeal to all. The love between Kirk and Spock is present in every word, every line, and in the end, sex or no sex, that‘s all that really matters.[1]
