The Worst Witch is the third screen adaptation of the popular British children's book series by Jill Murphy, the first volume of which was published in 1974. The series follows an inexperienced young witch, Mildred Hubble, as she studies at Cackle's Academy, a magical boarding school.
The series is a co-production by the British CBBC and Germany's ZDF. It airs on CBBC in the UK and is subsequently made available on Netflix in other countries.
Fandom
The series has a small but active fandom, focused mainly on Tumblr, with fic posted regularly to both AO3 and FFN. Fannish activity tends to centre around the strict and reserved potions mistress, Miss Hardbroom, who features in both of the most popular pairings - Ada Cackle/Hecate Hardbroom and Hecate Hardbroom/Pippa Pentangle.
Although the majority of fanworks posted are femslash, there is also a certain amount of gen fic featuring both the teachers and the pupils at the school.
