SHORT and sweet is a phrase that could have been written for Drarroway's story The T'dee Bear and the R'Bur D'ki.

The story is a vignette of just over 5,500 words, which will leave you with a nice, warm feeling that all is right with the world. Set in the hours after the episode Immunity Syndrome, the story takes the premise that Spock, facing likely death as he pilots a shuttlecraft into the space amoeba, has left his Katra with Kirk 'just in case'. When he returns to the Enterprise is is to find his captain in a state of near collapse due to a combination of the effect of the amoeba, stimulants he has been taking in order to keep going through the crisis and the emotional strain placed on him, firstly by carrying and then by having to face giving up Spock's eternal soul. The story offers a lovely portrayal of the deep bonds of friendship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy. It is beautifully written and almost poetic in the way it flows, while managing to stay just the right side of saccharine.
