Reactions and Reviews
ok, so this one starts in a way that is almost guaranteed to make me not want to read on: each paragraph for the first page starts with a single-word exclamation.1. Failure! The taste of it was bitter in Blake's mouth as they raced for the surface and escape. 2. Fool! If Avon didn't call himself that, he'd have to so name himself. 3. Avon? There were times when Blake couldn't begin to guess what motivated the other man.
i can kind of see what these things are doing here. blake is a man of punchy exclamations, but it also reads like a george lucas title crawl.
anyway, my point is you shouldn't judge a fic by it's initial clauses, because i like this one quite a bit. it's also not long -this time, it's an AU from 'pressure point' onwards. since it's not online i'll just tell you that it posits that blake, feeling the full force of his failure, decides to rescue gan and dies in the attempt. avon and jenna freak out - and avon decides to become blake two seasons early. i don't know if this is a thing that's happened in lots of other stories, but this is the first time i've read it - and i thought it was well done. very good avon dialogue.[1]
