The Poppy War is an adult dark fantasy book and book series by R.F. Kuang. Set in the empire of Nikan, the series is based heavily on historical China, especially the Song Dynasty era, the Opium Wars, and the Second Sino-Japanese War, along with Chinese mythology. The series is known for its harsh depictions of war, sexual violence and imperialism, along with its gray morality.
