Excerpt

"The warriors sat around the bonfire; bellies full, but spirits not yet satisfied. Among them, one warrior, who was older than anyone had the right to be, began to speak.

'I reach into the distant past,' he began, and all paid rapt attention. 'From the age of myths and legends, I recall stories which were handed down from father to son, for generations innumerable. We tell these stories not so much to amuse, or to teach; but to connect ourselves with our past, and show us we are not alone. We are one people. We are one blood. We are Klingon'."

Reactions and Reviews

Plot/Key Points: "Poet Warrior" is a fan-written collection of eight wonderful insights into a different side of Klingon life - the legends passed down from family to family. We got a small taste of this with the legend of Kahless in the TV series, but fans were left hanging and wondering what other fascinating stories could be part of Klingon heritage. Well, here's every Trekker's answer! Christine Francis, a well-known online fanfiction writer, has given us eight short stories that include:

The Tale of the Poet Warrior The Fable of the Targ's Mate The Tale of the Demon's Child and five more!

Characterization: There are many interesting characters to be found throughout the pages of "Poet Warrior". What is so fascinating about these stories is that many are told from a storytelling Klingon's point of view. Whether an old Uncle tells the children about a love who has gone ahead to Stovokor, or a unknown Klingon must tell an entertaining story to a band of rowdy Klingons or face losing his head, they all have their own unique spin on life. The dialogue is written with spunk, the characters give a glimpse of Kling on family life, and the whole collection gives us brand new Klingon tales to sink our bat'leths into.

Overall: A wonderful story for all who want to learn about the "other side" of Klingon life and legend, yet filled with the honor and glory traditionial to all Klingon tales. An honorable publication from both Christine Francis and Queen's Pawn Production. Here's to reading more from this author and publisher.
