The Mummy is a American action-adventure film reboot part of the The Mummy franchise started in 1932 by Universal Pictures. The film follows a U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Morton (Tom Cruise), a soldier of fortune who accidentally unearths the ancient tomb of entrapped Egyptian princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella).
Initially intended to kickstart the Dark Universe, an attempt to create a modern cinematic universe based on the classic Universal Monsters film series, the film's poor box office performance led to the discontinuation and cancellation of the Dark Universe due the film's negative reception.
Fandom
The film's fandom is extremely small, in part because many fans expected a story following the O'Connell descendants of the The Mummy trilogy by Sommers, or a plot with similar context, but after the initial failure of the sequel Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and the negative reviews of this reboot, as well as its failure at the box office led to it being cited as a crossover part of the 1999-2008 trilogy or other films starring Cruise.
