The incomparable Shelley Butler. No signature is needed anymore -- though I look for it as I look for any label of quality.
THE MELD. Or as we know from the accompanying text, attempted meld. Kirk disheveled, hair in disarray; Spock so fervently intent, such a look of total concentration. I don’t see the soft look of love here that I usually associate with Shelley’s art. No, here she clearly conveys fierce determination in Spock, almost total desperation in Kirk’s answering gaze. A truly terrible moment, illustrated with all the futility their efforts represented. [1]

Why is mindmelding so hot? pg 210 Don't know, but Shelley Butler makes it just as hot here. [2]
