The Human Adventure is a 50-page gen Star Trek: TOS and SF fanzine of fiction, art, cartoons and articles.

From a Submission Request

THE HUMAN ADVENTURE is just beginning! Actually, THA is a new fanzine which will concentrate on both the STAR TREK universe, and various science fiction themes as well. Our first issue should be available around the end of this year. It will feature approximately 70 pages of interior stories and art, and will have a full-colorcover! We are still seeking submissions for the first issue of both story and/or art. While the majority of THE HUMAN ADVENTURE will be set in the STAR TREK universe, we are also interest in science fiction or fantasy stories which deal with the human element in space and time. We want THA to deal with people -- their trials and tribulations, their failures and errors, their victories and defeats. Stories should b retype-written, double-spaced, and (preferable) no longer than 50 pages.

In the first issue, we will feature a story by James Van His, entitled FOREVER COME TWILIGHT. It's a science-fiction/fantasy short story with a lot of surprises. Also in our first ish we will feature THE LAST STAR TREK FAN by Stephen Mendenhall. Other stories are being considered at this time, and some of our contributors will include: Christopher Randolph, Mary Ann Smith, Liz Persic, Wendy Rathbone, Joyce Tullock, Vel Jaeger, and others.

We hope to publish THA approximately twice per year. The zine will be printed offset, and will feature rare photos as well as artwork, stories, and poetry. If you have any STAR TREK photos which you think are rare, please send a copy for consideration. All contributors will decide a free copy of the issue in which their contribution appears.

The Proposed Writing Contest: "What If?

A flyer for the first issue had descriptions and a writing prompt for a contest:

1. What if... Kirk did the ultimate no-no and was really courtmartialed this time? Where would he go? Who would stand beside him? Would he be able to get back into Starfleet? Or would he want to?

2. What if... There were no more miracles for Kirk and the Enterprise? The Enterprise is thrust into 20th Century Earth-time, but there is no way back home. What decisions will have to be made? Where will 430 people go in this timeline? How will they change the future?... And what of Spock?

3. What if... The Enterprise was on a mission at the extreme edges of the galaxy and returned to find that no other life existed? Starbases are deserted, Earth is barren and not even the Klingons or the Romulans can be found. The only life remaining in the galaxy is plant and animal. Cities stand deserted, whistling winds the only sound in a silent universe...

The WHAT IF writing contest will be a semi-regular feature of THE HUMAN ADVENTURE. All entries for the first issue should be received by us no later than August 1st. Winners will receive 2 free issues of THA (#1 & #2). All stories should be type-written, double-spaced, and no longer than 50 pages. If you have any ideas for the WHAT IF section, let us know! If there's a question you've always had about what happen "if....", now's the time to find out!
