The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals is an original horror-comedy musical created by Team Starkid. The live production ran from October 11 to November 4, 2018 at the Matrix Theatre in Los Angeles.[1] The musical follows Paul, a man who works a boring office job and is forced to team up with his coworkers to survive a musical theatre apocalypse. It is the first musical in Starkid's Hatchetfield Trilogy, followed by Black Friday in 2019. It is notably darker than StarKid's previous work.

The show's book was written by Matt and Nick Lang, with the music and lyrics by Jeff Blim. It was loosely inspired by the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The Musical was nominated for 14 Los Angeles Broadway World Awards and won 9.[2]

Fandom

The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals was Starkid's first show following their relocation to LA. As a result of the move, there was no new musical the prior year. The release of the show revitalized the Starkid fandom and introduced many new fans to their shows.

Despite his brief appearance, the character Professor Hidgens became a fan-favorite, mostly due to his appropriately titled song "Show-Stopping Number." Having met the $250,000 stretch goal for their 10th anniversary Kickstarter campaign, Starkid plans to release a short film following his quest to produce his original musical, Workin' Boys, to Kickstarter backers.[3]

The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals was the 5th most popular musical on Tumblr Fandometrics' Year in Review 2019.[4]

Shipping
