The Fountainhead is a novel by Ayn Rand. A film adaptation featuring Gary Cooper was released in 1949.
The novel's protagonist, Howard Roark, is a bright young modern architect who refuses to compromise on his designs.
Beyond being part of the broader fandom surrounding Rand's ideology and works, The Fountainhead is also popular with some architects, who identify themselves with Roark. Often this is limited to a commonly re-shared excerpt in which Roark criticizes the Parthenon.
