The Emu's Hatchery was an X-Files website and archive with a focus on new fan fic writers.
The Hatchery grew out of a wish to have some attention drawn to the new authors, to encourage feedback, and to give them a place to 'break in' to the community. The general idea is for everyone to pop in occasionally and offer a little encouragement to the newest debutantes. You don't need to give them an in depth analysis of their story (though I'm sure it would be appreciated -g-). A quick note will do wonders for a writer's confidence.
*Please* send something!
The debut stories of older authors are also archived. I originally did this to show that everyone started at the bottom, but I've discovered that a lot of our best authors hit the ground running, so that purpose has kind of gone out the window. Still, it does offer a reminder that everyone started somewhere. A lot of writers that we consider 'established' have only been posting for a few months, which just goes to show what an open community we have.
When we have time, the wonderful Lisa is planning to run a search through Gossamer for the first story posted under each author's name, but in the meantime, I'd really appreciate it if authors would send their stories to me. [1]
