Reactions and reviews
Their website makes noble claims about telling original stories and not re-using old monsters and companions. Sadly these claims are not true. During the eight stories the Master turns up, as does the Brigadier, Captain Yates, Leela with Andred on Gallifrey and the origin of the Cybermen. The UNIT episode is a disgrace, a really unlikely story about Mike Yates plotting for years to kill the Brigadier because of UNIT's disrespect for human life. This is the kind of fan fiction that should be evaluated in a writer's group, but never published. References to past TV stories in this anthology come thick and fast, and probably swamp anyone unfamiliar with the series. They're very derivative, and are sometimes cut and pasted out of context from their original use. 'My dear Tamara, have I never told you about the Yetis in the underground (sic), the Cybermen on the steps of St. Paul's or the terrible Zygon gambit?' There are too many prime gaffes in this anthology to list. The Season 30 Omnibus is an excellent study for anyone who wants to improve their fanfic writing by a process of elimination. I good-naturally challenge the producers of The Doctor Who Project to outperform the next issue of Myth Makers with their next anthology, The Season 31 project due out in the autumn.[1]
