Reactions and Reviews

This was a charming little story, with a premise I don't remember reading before in K/S. Kirk is trying to seduce Spock, with no luck at all. Any time he comes close to making his intentions clear, the Vulcan flees. Frustrated, Kirk goes to McCoy, who has done some research on Vulcan mating rituals (why he's done this is explained in the story) and suggests that since the human way of courtship is failing miserably, that Kirk should try the Vulcan way. Kirk agrees, and soon finds himself at dinner on Vulcan with Spock's parents, Spock, and McCoy, who is standing in for the elder family member that would normally accompany Kirk. The author lays out the Vulcan ritual plausibly, I thought, and also makes Spock's behavior (hesitation on the ship, but acquiescence on Vulcan) believable. The story has some amusing moments as well, such as when Kirk and Spock are first alone together on Vulcan, and when McCoy discovers that he will need to meet with T'Pau to make the arrangements for the bonding. I enjoyed this well written story. [1]
