Summaries

From the distributor, "...quiet little village of Rosebury in the English countryside of Sussex, and its inhabitants. What does this village have to do with Illya's past? How does fellow agent Mark Slate fit in? Does the stuffy Thrush official living there have anything to do with it? Napoleon's dying to know! Join him as he finds out more about his partner than perhaps anyone should know..."

From a flyer: "A misty English town, set in the center of an ancient stone circle, is laid-siege by a series of gruesome and inexplicable events . The elders say it's the evil of the "Old Ways"...but the U.N.C.LE. believes otherwise when a British statesman suddenly goes missing after a visit to the circle. Illya Kuryakin, new to the organization, is teamed with agent Mark Slate, in hopes that they--under the watchful eye of Chief Enforcement agent Napoleon Solo--can find out where the occult ends and Thrush begins. Unusual goings-on and reacquaintance with an, unfortunately, familiar face are in store for the Russian in this prequel novella to THE RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY AFFAIR (11 & 2 #2 (01/1987)."

Comments by the Author

The author comments that her first Man from U.N.C.L.E. story was in 11 & 2, and that it was the first part of "The Circle of Stones Affair."

From Media Fandom Oral History Project Interview with TM Alexander (2012):

It was wildly popular... it was called "The 'Rain, Rain Go Away' Affair," and I introduced a character who intimated that he had a past with Illya... And people ate this story up. And they were like, "We want to know about what happened before, about Illya and this character, the bad guy." So I wrote – and that was 1987 – so I wrote my first novel, fan novel, "The Circle of Stones Affair."... it was my first, so it was my second fannish writing, my first fan novella. And Paulie illustrated it, and, uh, I got nominated for a Fan Q. So, my second piece of fiction, my first novel, my first Fan Q nomination. And I won the award for "Best Man from UNCLE zine novel", novel/novella in 1988.
