I think I first read this quite soon after it came out (Big Bang 2011, apparently) and it is an excellent fic all round. Exactly as it says on the tin, Moriarty has kidnapped Watson and plans to use him as leverage/bait to make Holmes do his bidding. He also quite fancies Watson. Lots of exploration of Moriarty’s network being bound together by comprising chiefly of men-who-love-men (and therefore already criminals in the sight of the law). I love Watson in this as he attempts to both conduct himself as an officer and gentleman and conserve his strength despite every capitulation to Moriarty (eating his food, copying out the headline to prove he is alive) feels like both a wise move and yet a submission to Moriarty’s games. Lovely stuff.[1]

I would check the tags before I read this one, but it's soooo good. I can't give anything away but basically moriarty realizes watson is holmes' weak spot, and uses him for leverage. also there's a literal Paget-style drawing at one point in the text that looks amazingly real and i'm blown away every time i read it.[2]

(a.k.a one of my favourite fic writers!) How about some victorian!lock kidnapping? well, Moriarty decides to kidnap Watson, will Holmes solve the case?[3]

This is quite possibly one of my favourite ACD!canon fics, written for this year's holmes_big_bang; it has the advantage of being primarily a case fic, with a second focus on Holmes and Watson's relationship. flawedamythyst does an excellent job out of everybody's characterization, especially Watson, whose confrontation with Moriarty is both chilling and very believable. The double case of suspense — that related to the case, and that related to whether Holmes and Watson are ever going to come to grips with each other — leaves you very breathless until the very end. The art accompanying the story is gorgeous, strongly inspired by Paget's original pictures, and the final result is that of a very complete, very emotionally satisfying story.[5]

Oh. My. GOD. This was spellbindingly good! The climax literally had me on the edge of my seat. Here's to the Baker Street Irregulars, and to Dr. John Watson and Sherlock Holmes! I don't want to give away any spoilers just in case, but OMGGGGGGGGGGGG. The writing was fantastic, and just as suspenseful as it needed to be.[6]
