Reactions and Reviews
The next one I know you’ll love, since you are a sucker for sad stories. “The Aftermath” by Debbie Cummins takes place after Spock’s death but before the fal tor pan. McCoy tries to get Kirk to release his grief while they talk about Spock in an observation room on the Enterprise. There’s the neatest sentence in there about how Spock liked the color pink. I bet you’ll cry if you read this one. [1]
I’ve been thinking more about unhappily ending stories. There are a few that I really like, among them one by Debbie Cummins in As I Do Thee 12 called Aftermath, where McCoy helps Kirk a few weeks after Spock’s death by finally getting him to talk in a private observation lounge. It’s a heartbreaker, but I read it time and again and love it. [2]
