"Welcome to TEX-CON 1979!"
Frankly, we really didn't think there'd ever BE a TEX-CON. When we placed the announcement for it in the STARCON Program Book, we sorta' had the feeling that not too many fans would be interested in another convention so soon after STARCON.
Boy, were we ever WRONG! We've gotten an enormous amount of mail lately that expressed pleasure with STARCON and oozed enthusiasm over the upcoming TEX-CON. And many of the fans who came into our store (The REMEMBER WHEN SHOP - see ad elsewhere in this issue) these past few months have all been anxiously inquiring about the con and before we knew it, we were firmly committed to making TEX-CON the most fun-tastic event this side of Andromeda!
It's not easy to organize a convention; there are 8 zillion jobs that have to be done and many of them are dull, dreary and boring. Fortunately we have a great group of fans who care about conventions and who are willing to donate their time and energy to seeing that said cons are a success. There are many of you who've done heroic work in TEX-CON's behalf, and we sincerely thank you for it.
The honor roll of Committee Members, Aides, and generally all-around good folks includes: Mark McGee, John Davis, Alan David Laska, Mark Lamberti, Gary Adkins, Scott Holt, Hal Crawford, Bill Otstott, Ed Graham, Bobb Waller, Calvin King, Guy Brownlee, Edd Vick, Iona Dennis, Sandy Williams, Bruce Harris, and Violet Nordstrom. That's by no means the entire list, of course, and the second this book goes to the printer, we'll think of two dozen others who deserve to be on this Honor Roll . . . . .it always happens that way! Suffice it to say, WE know who you are, and we thank you for your help!
And before we move on, let me single out two from the above list for Honorable Mention. They are Violet Nordstrom and Iona Dennis, who . . . . . are you ready for this, folks? .. . .sorted and typed in excess of 2,000 names and addresses in order to get the TEX-CON mailing list ready! Not only that, they filed all those names in alphabetical order... AND zip code order! No jive, this entire operation was a feat that boggled the mind and was something on the order of building the Pyramids of Egypt or mapping the Universe in three days! Well, maybe not THAT much but it was CLOSE. So we tip our hats to both gals for a job well done, a job above and beyond the call of duty!
