Reactions and Reviews
“Tevilah” is a thoughtful, imaginative, intuitive attempt to make sense of an episode which, as is typical of 1013, left plot threads dangling and major emotional fallout unresolved. Creating a back-story for Teena Mulder as a Holocaust survivor gives her tragedy added layers of meaning, and her son’s quest for justice for his sister and the the other victims of the Consortium even greater urgency. The series itself draws this parallel in the episode “Paper Clip” and even asserts that the same evil forces were at work. Her history might also explain why she might commit suicide rather than face an end that would lead to more pain and suffering, and more tests at the hands of doctors. Perhaps she sought to spare her son as well, although we know that didn’t work. Is it a perfect story? No, but for me, it was a moving one.[1]
