Technique is a Bodie/Doyle story by Helen Raven using the name Wild Horses.

It was published in Pæan to Priapus #6 and is online.

Author's Comments

My next story appeared two years later, in a zine from the same American publisher [bring out zine]. It’s a short piece of porn called "Technique", about the boys getting turned on by the damage they inflict on people in the course of their work. Not much danger of that winning an award, but it had a select group of enthusiastic admirers. [1]

Reactions and Reviews

This story can be found at the Oblique Publications website, where you can spend hours reading Pros. But this particular story is a bit of a departure from the usual Pros story. Short, but very dark and hot for all its short word count. It hints at a darker Bodie and Doyle, a Bodie and Doyle that take a secret thrill from all those interrogations. Warning, though -- there's knife-play, and some readers might be put off. [2]

I've always liked this one - dark and yummy and quite chilling. This was originally published under a pseud, and is in fact the work of helenraven, and is also available at her website. [3]

One thing I love about Helen Raven's Professionals work is that she puts a twist on the characters to be sure, but they aren't THAT far out of alignment with the show. The interrogation scenes are pretty dark anyway, and it's not that much of a stretch to imagine one or both of them getting off on the scene just a little, even if it's a temporary power trip. So push that thought some more, add sex and sadism (the language is incisive and direct, conveying much without any excess baggage) and there you have it - Technique. Love it! [4]

Another fascinating Pros story by a great writer. Thanks for recommending this. I *think* Helen Raven decided on a different name for this story as she'd come in for so much stick for The Same River, which in my opinion, is another example of her fine writing. [5]

I did hear that she got some flack for that story, which was unfortunate, but I understand why she would want to choose a pseudonym. [6]

Bodie and Doyle interrogate a prisoner. It's creepy. Now, I'm all for the hard edges in Pros stories, but there are limits. [7]

[Michelle] said: "Technique" by Wild Horses (Pros)--Bodie and Doyle interrogate a prisoner. It's creepy. Now, I'm all for the hard edges in Pros stories, but there are limits.' Just like Bodie has limits? I *loved* this story. This sort of s/m-ish story, all based in their jobs with little of the classic 'trappings' of s/m, is far more to my taste than the standard 'one of them topping the other' that I've seen a lot of in Pros recently. This is a straight (though extreme) extrapolation of the Doyle snapping on the red glove, and the Bodie taunting prisoners that we saw on screen... [8]
