Asding links

Adding some links of various discussions of TikTok and fandom that I've gathered here in case they are of use for expansion. Page likely also needs restructuring, sections will need cutting down or possibly even segmenting into subpages at some point (e.g. the whole TikTok, Fan Works and AO3 could be a sub-page possibly?).

Also, I only really see the trends and toxic stuff that comes up on TikTok, but plenty of people use the platform for fannish activities, so getting those perspectives with some of the positives would help balance the page some more.

I was thinking of distributing the sections on individual fandoms to their own fandom pages — Cookies and chaos, would that work for you? Castille (talk) 17:38, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
I think that makes sense, it would tie the TikTok side of fandom directly to the fandoms rather than being separate, and streamline the page. Cookies and chaos (talk) 18:49, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Restructuring/Splitting Commentary Section

I'm taking a look at the fan commentary section as I think it's quite negative and needs PPOV as well as streamlining. Some examples of what I think could be added:

  • Generally, meta about there being a generational divide in the way people 'do' fandom on TikTok vs other platforms/demographics of TikTok vs other platforms
  • I'm sure there's also positive discussion about the ways TikTok fandoms have been doing new and innovative things with fanwork format (I've seen this within fandoms but I haven't looked for any general commentary, though I'm sure it exists)
  • I've also seen pushback on the negativity surrounding TikTok suggesting those people "don't get it"/"are shitting on young people"/generally are resistant to change which isn't really mentioned

I'll work on PPOV but if anyone else has other things they could add that would be really great!

I also think the whole thing could be streamlined on this page, but given there's so much to talk about, what do you guys think about paring it down on this page and splitting a lot of it off into its own page, maybe called something like "Impacts of TikTok on Fandom" or "Fan Discussion About TikTok" because that's mainly what meta about the platform is centered around. I'm happy to split this off if others agree — thoughts? - Castille (talk) 14:44, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
