Talk:Ray Kowalski

Now, I'm just your friendly neighborhood lurker, but I really do think that this page needs serious revision. First of all, we do know quite a lot about Kowalski! In addition to the details added within the episodes, we meet his ex-wife, his parents, his former mentor... Furthermore, while the fanon/canon connection is certainly interesting, it's not unusual. This sort of extrapolation happens all the time, but I haven't seen it mentioned on any other character's biography page. So, my real problem isn't the lack of information (which I guess I could add if nobody else wants to, but I'm sure that there are other people out there who are far more qualified) but that I think that most of the material on the page should be removed or at least significantly shortened. And, as a lurker, I really don't feel comfortable doing that.

Fanlore is a wiki about fandom, so we're not so much interested in a lengthy biography of the sort you'd find on Wikipedia. Canon vs fanon is an excellent example of stuff that should go in the wiki. If you haven't seen it on other character pages, that's because no one has yet to add it. The wiki has only just got started, after all. (Though I have seen it on some Stargate Atlantis pages.) That's not all that should go on a character page, but overall the page should be fandom-focused, not canon-focused. Just a note that I added a few placeholder type headings, etc. to make it clear that this is an unfinished page. I really didn't know how much canon detail ought to be included, so I jumped right into the fanon section.--Aethel 00:58, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Note: I'm trying to add fanfics as examples of Ray's fanon characterization, but thus far, the examples are 100% Fraser/RayK. non-Fraser/RayK examples would be appreciated. Alternatively, if some of these fanon quirks turn out to be specific to Fraser/RayK stories, perhaps those examples should be moved to the Fraser/Kowalski page.--Aethel 17:15, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
