Talk:Gay Panic

I don't know if this is the phrase to use, but it's a start. --Mrs. Potato Head 23:31, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

This is a term I've seen around, though not in a fannish context. If it's not used fannishly, then the glossary category would be inappropriate, but I don't know enough to say. According to Wikipedia, it's an archaic term for an acute mental anxiety disorder [1], though from context I had always assumed that it meant a non-diagnostic description of straight people worrying about gay people. We have a page for Homophobia in Fandom; maybe what we need is Homophobia and Fandom or Homophobia and TPTB. There're creators who are weirded out by slash, creators like Orson Scott Card who are known homophobes, etc.--æþel 15:18, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Which is to say, "gay panic" seems like a useful description of TPTB's response, but a page called simply Gay Panic seems too broad.--æþel 15:21, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm okay with someone moving it to a bigger page, one we already have, or making a new one. I first brought the topic up at the Fan Service page and am trying to find a home for these examples. While not completely directly related, I'm also still trying to find a place for when TPTB make subtle jabs at fans as well as out-and-out "f*ck you" onscreen actions meant to diss fans. --Mrs. Potato Head 15:28, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
