Talk:File 40 (Man from UNCLE zine)

I see that File 40 redirects to an archive and am not sure how to file this zine. On the archive page as a "you may be looking for?"? I certainly don't want to make another pointless disambiguation like I did with Twelve 'O Clock High. Mrs. Potato Head 18:44, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Hm, I'd turn the redirect into a disambiguation in this case. File 40 seems to have some significance in MUNCLE so it's bound to crop up in titles. And I think with an archive and a zine that both share a fandom there is more parity than between the fandom and a zine in that fandom. In this case I don't see the archive linked that more often than the zine is and in either case File 40 isn't even its full name. I don't mind disambiguations between just two things, especially if both are zines or fanworks and about to be linked to the same extent. The main problem in the Twelve O'Clock High and the Alien Nation examples was that the fandom names are far more commonly linked (namely in all zines and fanworks) than a single zine, which usually is only linked on a zine list and maybe one or two articles, and with the zines being in the fandom even more so. So IMO fandom names should only become disambiguation pages if it can't be avoided, and to lesser degree also character names (see for example "Spock" iirc which goes to the character because mostly people want that, not the zine, and it is even on topic to link the zine from the character page), simply to avoid double clicks for the majority without having to edit a lot of wikilinks.--Ratcreature 22:56, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Rename

The disambig needs to be changed; there's no slash in the zine.--Greenygal 05:50, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Question: Should this be called Man from UNCLE gen anthology (which tangles it up with a redirect as it stands now) or File 40 and the other one: File Forty renamed File Forty because of how it is pronounced? --Mrs. Potato Head 12:16, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Er...I dunno? :) I think the options are deleting the redirect and moving this one into the "File 40 (Man from UNCLE gen anthology)" namespace, disambiguating the two pages with a number at the end, or disambiguating with the publisher at the end. Do we have any precedents for disambiguating titles that only differ by spelling out a number?--Greenygal 04:55, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
I can't think of any precedents off-hand. I think we need some more input. --Mrs. Potato Head 12:28, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
If there is no other File 40 page, I don't think disambiguation is necessary. We could just move the disambiguation page to File Forty (as there are two File Forty pages: File Forty (Man from UNCLE and James Bond zine) and File Forty (Man from UNCLE gen anthology)) and add a line to the disambiguation page at the top of the File 40 page. --Doro 13:18, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, I thought I could fix this, but as usual made a mess of things. I'm sorry. Can someone untangle what I just gummed up? --Mrs. Potato Head 13:33, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
The old File 40 was a disambiguation page and you deleted that content instead of moving it to File Forty. I thought retracing all the steps would be too complicated so I just copied the disambiguation page content of the deleted page and put it on the new File Forty disambiguation page. --Doro 13:57, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, Doro. :-) --Mrs. Potato Head 14:00, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
