Talk:Distant Shores (Starsky and Hutch zine)

I'm fairly sure this is the same S&H slash novel "Distant Shores" that is attributed to April Valentine on the S&H page and the H/C page, and that this is a case of double/changing pseuds, rather than that two epic S/H slash novels titled Distant Shores by different authors. And in case that (redacted) and April Valentine are the same fan, I think this article should be moved to Distant Shores - April Valentine because her LJ is under that name, so that seems to be the preferred online pseud and would be better for consistency. Or if the two pseuds are supposed to be kept separate, then the author names on the H/C and S&H pages in the wiki need to be adjusted.--Ratcreature 09:44, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- Totally a tricky thing, and one that pertains to hundreds of zines. They are one and the same person. (redacted) is, of course, the name on the zine. April Valentine is one name she uses online. Distant Shores is unlikely to ever be net-posted, so it's hard to know what her intentions about authorship are about it. However, the (redacted) name is used extensively on other zines, both as auhtor and publisher. And (redacted) is used for "Distant Shores" on Tagging Bay City Personally, I think that without a note to say they are the same author, having just the Valentine name on Shores is confusing, perhaps misleading to the casual reader. My thought: why don't I change the author to (redacted) on the wiki? Mrs. Potato Head 12:09, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- Most fans who are online are bound to recognize the online name better though and will be able to have associations with that name (at least it was like that for me, I had never heard of "(redacted)" before today, but recognize the name April Valentine as someone who writes TS fic and publishes zine. Also April Valentine is the name associated with In Person Press on their website for the most part except for a tiny fairly hidden note about whom to put on checks. And granted that site hasn't been updated in a while, but it is still online and represents the publisher.--Ratcreature 18:02, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- The easiest way to sort it out is to just ask April - I'm emailing her now, will come back with an answer whenever she gets back to me with a decision. If it comes to it, I'm fine with using whichever name is on the fanwork in question, and just making one page for the fan herself under whichever name she prefers as the "primary" name, with the other redirecting to it and a note that she uses both. :) --Arduinna 18:16, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- I've asked her, and she prefers April Valentine to be used in the wiki (so I'm redacting her name in comments here - I don't think the history needs to be hidden). So I'll move the page as well, and add a note that the author is using this name exclusively online now. It'll be fine, people are used to that. --Arduinna 08:34, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- Then a bunch of other zine pages should probably moved as well: i.e. Convicted, Day by Day, Down to Earth, The Flame Trilogy are all under the other name here (eta also about two dozen hits in various S&H articles and other zines where she is author).--Ratcreature 10:17, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
