Wow, this page was quite funny :') I did want to ask about the characterisation and make up of the fandom - I'm inclined to think that this is more of an English speaking fandom, rather than a Korean one. Do you know if there were fanworks / fan activity in Korean?
Also, not related to this subheader, but I feel like there's a lot of "canon" information about the members, and that doesn't seem so relevant to a fanlore wiki. Maybe we can trim it down or make the link to why these facts are important to the fandom clearer? Distracteddaydreamer (talk) 15:17, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- I honestly don't know if there is fan activity in Korean, but I don't think so besides the reactions. I don't think that the song charted in Korea. The reason why I put a lot of "canon" information on the page is that the fanbase is to a large extent also made up of fans of the Youtubers that don't enjoy K-pop outside of this parody (those fans enjoyed "beating" normal K-pop acts on charts). The fanbase is therefore predominantly English speaking. I would assume that a lot of K-pop fans, especially newer fans, have never heard of the parody unless they randomly read the occasional post about how someone craves a comeback, but those posts are never really that popular in the K-pop sphere. This is also the reason why there isn't a lot of fandom activity in English as well. Most people just enjoy the parody ironically and leave it at that. Of course, there are also a lot of K-pop fans among the K-poopers, especially since the band also introduced a lot of fans to K-pop, and among these fans they are adored, but a lot of fans also were and sometimes still are fans of the Youtubers first and foremost. Honestly, I would assume that all of the fandom activity stems from people who are also K-pop fans. At the same time, Ryan is definitely the most popular one out of the five. I don't really see anyone else besides him getting an own page on fanlore because they are the kind of og Youtubers that don't have a large and engaging fanbase anymore which is why I put the information there as it introduces them to newer fans and gives context to the BTS videos (for example the RHPC crew, the Wong Fu Production crew and Arden Cho turn up a lot). If you don't like it, you can definitely change that. I might make a page for Ryan in the future as he is the one I know the best. At one point, Ryan enjoyed the kind of popularity on Youtube where he could also have had a casual Korean speaking fandom, but I never looked into it. Btw I could see JUN also having a Korean speaking fandom nowadays as well because he kind of became a proper K-pop star in his own right. He's MCd for some fairly big K-pop events, performed at K-Con and even released a bunch of songs. Eryzan 11:12, April 11, 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the additional context! I'm going to amend the categories to remove "Korean Speaking Fandom" then since the group doesn't really have that traction there. I get what you mean about the context about who the youtubers are, especially if they don't have their own pages - I agree that Ryan Higa probably should have his own page, but I was never into his fandom and I don't think I have the capacity to make it. Actually wild to me that JUN ended up going into the industry - that's a plot twist i wouldn't have anticipated! Distracteddaydreamer (talk) 05:42, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
