I'm a bit confused by the canon of this fandom. Blood Ties is the TV show, right? And it is based on the books but the book series has a different title? Then the books should maybe move to the Tanya Huff page (Tanya Huff/Blood Books is suggested there as a red wikilink). Are there differences between the books and the TV series? Different/additional characters, other stories, etc? Or did they turn each book into a movie? Maybe it should start with "Blood Ties. Here be vampires." *g*--Doro 22:14, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Well, I've debated how this page should look and decided to put everything (books+tv) in one page. Fanlore generally doesn't have different pages for a book and film fandom (see LOTR or HP), though you could argue that those are actually true to the books while the show Blood Ties has a different plot than the books. I'm open to suggestions! The fandom is generally called "Blood Ties" and focuses more on the tv show that on the books, so I don't think the books warrant their own entry. But they're a good introduction to then go on to the show and to the fandom. I think it's obvious this page is still very much a WIP:) Michelle 22:23, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmm. I think if the fandom really is mostly about the tv show, I would begin the artice with Blood Ties is a TV show about (insert whatever it's about). It is based on Tanya Huff's Blood Books series (or whatever the series name is most people agree on) and then explain in the next section how the TV show and the books are connected. The rest of the article could be just about the TV show without taking anything away from the books because whatever there might be to add about the books could go to the autor page. What do you think? For what it's worth, I think LotR should have two pages because the page right now is a mess exactly because it combines book and tv fandom. :( Also, I think the Star Trek pages work much better now that we split them up into separate top level pages. --Doro 19:40, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
I think it's actually logical to say "hey look, way back when Tanya Huff wrote a couple of books and then, a few years later tv channel xyz stepped in and made a tv show out of it". The problem (for me), is that what's there is already all I meant to write about the books - so this doesn't warrant its own page since it doesn't have any fannish info. It's nothing more than an introduction. Of course, if someone comes in and has something fannish to add, then this could happily all live on its own page (the Tanya Huff page as it is now is a candidate for deletion anyway). I plan to pimp this page out to a couple of other fans, so maybe someone who's been around BT fandom longer actually has something worthwile to add. Michelle 17:13, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
FYI, the book and TV series are really quite distinct. The show does have three of the same main characters, but makes a significant substitution for a fourth. Specifically, it drops a gay supporting character (and a canonical m/m relationship) ostensibly because of legal issues, and instead elevates a minor character from one of the books into a female assistant for the heroine. Also, as you might expect, it simplifies the heroine's family issues. Then, after the series premiere, it mostly heads in its own direction. It's good, but it's definitely different. --Greer Watson 17:21, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

This needs a disambiguation. How best to title the Huff article? --Mrs. Potato Head 15:09, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

See, I love the books, but I've never thought of them as the "Blood Books". Always thought of them as "Tanya Huff's books about Vicki Nelson". The series was tied together by the titles, but it never had an official series name. --Greer Watson 17:21, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
