Talk:Attacker
Merging
Can this be merged with seme? The lead sounds a bit confusing. It first says "Attacker (攻め)「せめ」is a term used by Japanese-speaking media fandom...", which sounds like attacker = seme. Next it says "[I]t's rather synonymous with seme, though the two terms have different connotations and use cases" - in other words, attacker is close to seme but not exactly (?). --Potpotkettle (talk) 04:14, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Afterthought: There is gong, too. Maybe we are to have gong for Chinese specific usage, seme for Japanese specific usage, and attacker for a top-level description? Potpotkettle (talk) 04:27, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
- Potpotkettle I had no idea about gong! Yes, Seme does just mean attacker and vise-versa, they probably should be merged under "seme". But I wasn't so sure since 2000s Yaoi fandom is honestly out of my ballpark and I know seme has a lot of negative connotations, but the info would be good. I guess I just wanted the title "attacker," though seme is better for the English language in terms of connotations (I don't mind, but I know people see "attacker" and are like ?????) When people hear "seme" they don't think of Het (NL) or Femslash (Yuri). The idea that seme were all Male seems like a game of broken telephone, though I'm no expert. I do know though that to JPN fans, the stereotypical "seme" and the "attacker" in a pairing/coupling are synonymous, but that simply isn't the same to ENG fans. They should be merged though so people have the most info all in one page instead of spreading around misinfo. Gong is distinct enough that it should be "related", but not as a variant of "attacker", they may have different origins--Cavewomania (talk) 05:45, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Merge request
I've finally put all the info from this page onto seme. I should've done this a long time ago... So it would be best if all links to this page went to that one instead. Also Gong should not also be merged with seme, I think they have different origins and use cases. --Cavewomania (talk) 10:09, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
