Talk:Ansible

"Ansible" is also a FTL communication device in Orson Scott Card's Ender series. At some point, there'll probably need to be a disambig page. But as I'm not sure if it should go to "Ender's Game series" or "Enderverse/Technology" or "Ender's Game/Ansible," I'm not making it. (Not sure how to list series that don't have an obvious shared name or label, either.) It can wait, unless someone else has firm opinions on which details of various sci-fi universe are going to get their own pages. --Elfwreck 03:06, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

The ansible is definitely important in the Endersverse, but I don't think that particular ansible is important enough to fandom and fannish lore to rate its own page in the wiki. Since it's a term Card and several other SF authors (including this zine's creators) borrowed from Ursula K. LeGuin, it has a more general importance. Even considering that, I still don't think it falls into the purview of this wiki. But that's my $0.02 and I have no authority on wiki policies. --ainsley 04:17, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Depends on whether this is "the history and lore of fandom itself" or "the history and lore of topics of interest & relevance to fandom." In this specific case, however, I'd assume "ansible" will be mentioned somewhere on the Ender's Game page (has there been any fic focused around the ansible? I've got no idea), and a disambig page might offer either the zine, or a link to the EG main page, whatever that turns out to be.
Right now, I'd think of it as a distraction. Eventually, I'd love this to turn into "the site people use for their fannish research." But I'm also not on the wikkomittee, and am not sure that's the intended scope. --Elfwreck 04:49, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
