Talk:All About Star Trek Fan Clubs

Is it sure that this is a zine publication and that the "by fans for fans" isn't just some marketing slogan by a pro magazine aimed at fans? I mean they have a bar code on the cover for example. Amateur publications usually don't do bar codes, afaik? Also the color covers look very slick for 1970s zines.--Ratcreature 21:22, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- The isbns probably trump the lists of fan clubs and the article about how to run a con. Get rid of it if you see fit. Mrs. Potato Head 23:41, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- There's a lot of references to this thing out there, usually as a "fanzine" and as a "magazine." This bit says a little more: "Yes, the actual title of this magazine was indeed All About Star Trek Fan Clubs. Both these issues (#2 and #3) were released in 1977, and edited by comics veteran Tony Tallarico. Despite the name, the actual amount of space devoted to Star Trek Fan Clubs was minimal, with a couple pages of listings ("The Association for the Propagation of Trekkism," "The Harcourt Fenton Mudd Android Society of America," "Science Fiction Club of The Cosmos") and some short features devoted to fan art and fan profiles. The rest of it is typical Star Trek fanzine type stuff, with convention reports, news and rumors, as well as actor profiles and photos. My favorite actor profile is probably "Shatner's Biorhythms:... Other features include a photo tour of the Smithsonian, with a special focus on its display of an 11-foot U.S.S. Enterprise model from the show, a couple poems written by Nichelle "Uhura" Nichols (with fan illustrations), a gallery of fan art of Vulcan wildlife, and a long list of Star Trek facts." [1] With the fan art, this thing certainly straddles a line of slick and not-slick. It's certainly fannish, but other than that, beats me. Mrs. Potato Head 23:56, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- hm, the content certainly seems to be like a fanzine rather than merchandise magazines. Maybe some note that it does not seem to be non-profitlike typical media fanzines, but more on the border to a magazine with a fan fandom focus? Like maybe some of the slicker comic or sf zines that evolved?--Ratcreature 00:30, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
- There are a bunch that straddle that line. I'll try to work up some sort of note for it. Mrs. Potato Head 03:27, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
