Reactions and Reviews

This was a cute plot, but I wish she hadn't rushed it so. Once she had Kirk and Spock in the same room, she shot from impulse to warp drive and the results left are feeling unsatisfied. This idea and interpretation of pon farr are not mine, but I respect the right to adjust this Vulcan facet of life to a story's needs. [1]

“T’Var” by Karla Kelly is one of those fun stories we all like to read. While Kirk and Sarek are recovering together in Sickbay on the way to Babel, they trade questions, Kirk‘s are about pon farr, bonding, and ’ability‘, Sarek’s about Spock’s plans for the next time. Eventually Sarek asks Kirk if he will assume the role of T’Var or matchmaker for Spock, since he, Sarek, failed the last time. Kirk cannot understand why McCoy, when told, falls about laughing, and tells Kirk it is the best idea he’s heard in a long time. Of course when Kirk tries to think of the qualities needed for Spock’s mate he realises that he’s the only one who embodies them all! [2]
