Suspectes is a miniseries (or TV series, depending on the source) of eight episodes that aired on the French Network M6 in 2007.

Story

After the fall of a young woman [Olga Kurylenko] in a hotel, three women have to meet, though they never did before. They are brought together because a list with their names written on it was found in the hand of the accident victim. From there, the three women get to know the others. They all hide secrets, some leading back to the very same person who is related to the accident and various crimes that continue to occur.

The first one, Marina Devaux [Ingrid Chauvin], is a housewife, who lives with her husband and both their children. She used to be a real estate agent years before, and also once had an affair with the mysterious man at the centre of the incidents.

The second one, Claude Perkins [Karina Lombard], is a brilliant plastic surgeon, whose ex-husband is now to remarry with his current boyfriend. She has a son from that previous union, who is raised in secret by someone else. Her ex husband doesn't know about it. She will begin a relationship with Stan Lamérat [Saïd Taghmaoui], the police officer investigating the various mysteries and crimes. Perkins saved the mysterious man's life years before.

The third one, Juliette Valle [Elodie Frenck], is a cosmetic consultant. Adopted, she will end up meeting her biological mother, and will also discover that the mysterious man is actually her father.

The finale episode ends with the death of Juliette's mother, and still leaves a lot to be explored, but there was no sequel to Suspectes.

Reception/Fandom

While there were once again the discussions of people regretting how French TV shows are trying (and failing) to imitate American ones, there were others appreciating the efforts nevertheless, to bring some new style to the regular "melodrama of the summer" as miniseries airing on the biggest French networks in the summer period have been qualified for years.

All in all, Suspectes suffered from being in some kind of 'in between' position when it comes to 'regular' French TV shows (such as Julie Lescaut that made much more audience than its final episodes) and American ones (such as CSI which also gathered more people in front of TV with a rerun than episodes 3 and 4 of Suspectes). The 'mixed' cast — actors who are known from their involvement in international projects (Karina Lombard, Saïd Taghmaoui) vs. actors who have appeared only in French productions (Ingrid Chauvin, who tended to be one of the most criticized members of the cast) — added to that issue, along with the writing and the production in general.

Discussion-wise, some scattered topics on a few forums occured on the French Internet, such as on the official boards of the M6 network and on a website dedicated to Ingrid Chauvin.

As for fan productions, though Karina Lombard has quite a large number of fans, especially due to her role on The L Word, clips from Suspectes don't seem to be very much featured in any fanvideos/tributes devoted to the actress.
