Suletta/Miorine, also known by the portmanteau Sulemio, is the canonical femslash ship between Suletta and Miorine from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.

Canon

Suletta and Miorine are both students the Asticassia School of Technology. Through a system setup by Miorine's father, Delling Rembran, she is engaged to the highest scoring duellist in a mobile suit at Asticassia, giving them the title of Holder. Suletta and Miorine become engaged soon after Suletta transfers and wins a duel against the school's top duellist, though Suletta had not realized winning would lead to an engagement. The pair slowly development legitimate feelings for each other as the story unfolds.

Fandom

Sulemio is the most popular ship in the The Witch from Mercury fandom and is very popular in the wider Gundam fandom.

Open to Interpretation?

Following the finale the official English-language Gundam Twitter account refered to Miorine as Suletta's wife in the image description text of them sitting together.[1] This was noted by Japanese fans as no such description was used on the official Japanese social media accounts that posted the same image. A few weeks later on July 26, 2023, scans of an interview with Suletta's voice actress, Kana Ichinose, within Gundam Ace magazine was shared online showing how she referenced Suletta and Miorine's marriage, which caused the hashtag スレミオ結婚 (SuleMio Marriage) to trend in Japan.

However, when the digital version of Gundam Ace was released a few days later fans noticed that the interview had been edited to remove the direct reference to marriage. This caused an immediate backlash from both Japanese and Western fans who felt that Suletta and Miorine's marriage was being censored.

On July 30, the magazine's publisher Kadokawa released a statement that claimed the removal was a "proofreading mistake" and that the marriage reference was based on "editorial speculation". An accompanying statement was released on the official Witch from Mercury website repeating these claims as well as stating they wanted to leave the status of Suletta and Miorine's relationship "open to interpretation".[2] This further intensified the backlash and the attempt to seemingly walk-back the canon ending was covered by several news outlets.[3][4]

In the English-Speaking side of the fandom fanart, memes and screenshot edits mocking Bandai were also created in response.[5][6][7]

Adding further fire to the flames, in August the production staff that worked on the show announced they would be selling an unofficial art book at Comiket 102 on August 12, with the cover featuring Suletta and Miorine embracing while deliberately highlighting their wedding rings. Many interpreted this as a dig at Bandai, though there was no confirmation if this was the case from the staff themselves.

Ultimately the phrase "Open to Interpretation"/"Up to Interpretation" became something of a meme within the fandom itself and while the backpedaling was frustrating for many fans, most did not take it to seriously mean that Suletta and Miorine were no longer married. This was further confirmed in December of 2023 when the final Blu-ray volume was released with an interview with Hiroshi Kobayashi, series director and storyboard artist for the series finale, confirming Suletta and Miorine are indeed married in the story's final scene. Following this confirmation, the hashtag スレミオ結婚 (SuleMio Marriage) once again trended in Japan.[8]

Sulemio vs. Destiel

In May of 2024 the final round in the "Unofficial Top Tumblr Relationships Bracket" had Sulemio up aginast Destiel. An intercommunity ship war transpired on Tumblr as a result. Sulemio won by a considerable margin, with 53,394 votes compared to Destiel's 28,519.
