Reactions and Reviews: Issue 10

SUBJECT: AIRWOLF 10 is the last of this series on Airwolf. It contains some well-written stories. The illustrations, which are either illo or computer art, are very well done. My favorite story is "Fair Exchange" by Johanna Bolton. Hawke picks up a pilot in Denver on a return flight to Van Nuys, but unknown to him, the man is working with a group out to get Airwolf. During the attempt to capture Hawke, the man crashes the helicopter at Van Nuys airport and it burns. Dom, Cait and Archangel believe Hawke is dead since they didn't know about the other pilot. Hawke has survived, badly injured and with amnesia, but was picked up by the group. Two months pass, during which Dom mourns and lets the business go, allowing Cait to try to carry it. Dom is contacted late one night with the news that String is alive and told to bring Akwolf in trade for him. Dom and Archangel fight over this and the rescue attempt fails due to Archangel's interference. String, meanwhile realizes he doesn't like Bogart and disbelieves much of what Bogart has told him about himself. He tries to escape but is caught. Dom and Cait are contacted by a sympathizer and they try to rescue String again and this time they pull if off. "Of Friendship and Fraud" by Christine Callihan is the story of Archangel and Vladimir Rostoff's (Proof Through the Night) friendship. We get a glimpse of Michael's life when he was a field agent and we can begin to understand why he is so close to Rostoff. "Wolf's Throat" by Darlene Rutherford is about the discovery of Airwolf's lair by an American Indian woman who has had a dream that a hawk and a wolf will help her with the problems she has encountered on her grandmother's land on the reservation. A strange group of men are pothunting for Indian relics as well as preparing for an attack on a secret U. S. missile sight and Macolea hears them talk about a strange helicopter which they would also like to bring down. She stumbles in the Lair and gets String and Dom to help her and they track down the group and destroy their weapons. At the end, Macolea tells String about how her dream vision was fulfilled with Airwolf as the wolf of the air but how the hawk had never appeared. String laughs and says that it's all in the name and tells her his last name. The other stories are well written as was the poetry. This zine is worth reading for Airwolf fans. [2]
