Sub-Space Chatter is a one-page, monthly newsletter published by "Starfleet," and only available at the bookstore "The Bookrack" for a Star Trek: TOS section called "Cyrano Jones' Trading Post."

It cost a quarter, but was free with a purchase of something else at that store.

Gene Roddenberry, creator of STAR TREK, QUESTOR, and GENESIS II (PLANET EARTH) spoke at the University of New Hampshire on April 25, 1974. He had comments on each of his shows [ The Questor Tapes, Planet Earth and Star Trek ]:

Yes, we made a pilot called THE QUESTOR TAPES. It played to about the best reviews that I've seen in the last five years almost universally liked. NBC immediately ordered twenty shows, and then having ordered them, NBC, and Universal decided they wanted to change the format. It was the story of an android and a human. They decided to take the human out. They said, "Look, let's play it safe. Let's do the FUGITIVE, except he's a robot, get it?" And I said, "I...I won't do it." And we argued all of last year, and I...I'm just getting tired of networks and studios, of men who were formally accountants, attorneys, agents and so on, usurping the authority of creative people.

Issue 3

Sub-Space Chatter 3 was published in July 1974. It is a single page.

Cyrano Jones' Trading Post is proud to announce the arrival of "Alien Beasties" from the far reaches of the galaxy. Now you can see what a Denebian Slime Devil looks like, or have an Aldebaran Shell Mouth for your very own. These "Beasties" are the creation of Gennie Summers of Cassville, MO and Gennie says, "Beasties may differ according to size, shape and availability of materials. Each one is therefore unique." We are working with Gennie to develop more STAR TREK "Beasties" and will show sketches of them in future issues of SUBSPACE CHATTER. Because of these sketches in this issue, we are not running the usual tribble cartoon. Watch for it next month

Issue 4

Sub-Space Chatter 4 was published in August 1974. It is a single page.

TRIBBLE CREATOR DAVID GERROLD NARROWLY ESCAPES DEATH

David Gerrold, creator of the Tribble, and author of "WORLD OF STAR TREK" and "TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES" narrowly escaped death in the Goldwyn Studio fire in Hollywood that damaged many movie sets, including David's "LAND OF THE LOST" set. David reports that he tried to turn in the fire alarm, but the little hammer next to the alarm box was gone and he tried to beat in the glass with a pop can. He was dragged from the burning studio by firemen after trying to save his LAND OF THE LOST material. He must have saved enough material to continue his series, for it is still scheduled on the NBC Fall lineup for Saturday morning shows. David said that as he tried to find his car under the rubble of the collapsed studio wall, he discovered his car hadn't been scratched. Lucky David!
