Storms of Winter is a Jim/Blair story by Meredith Lynne.
Reactions and Reviews
There's a running joke on Merry Lynne's page that she likes and writes first time stories a *lot*. All I can say is, if the rest of us wrote first-times this well, we'd be writing them all the time, too. This is a quiet, subtle piece that takes us camping with Jim and Blair. Dialogue is sparse and used to great effect, and the atmosphere is so perfect that I swear I could hear the fire crackling. A very lovely story, one of my faves. I have a feeling Merry's stories will be popping up here often.[2]
Ah, this is one of those stories where nothing happens to bring them together: no external threat, no sudden revelation in the face of danger, no loss-induced introspection. Just the two of them, aware of their love, willing to go further, and taking the decision to do it. During a camping trip. :-)The slow pace of this is what really got me; there is no rush, no desperation, only trust, tenderness, certainty and love. They both know where are they going, they know they are already going, so... why run?
The writing is perfect, soothing and warm and beautiful.[3]
