Stevonnie is a recurring character in the animated series Steven Universe.

Canon

Stevonnie is the fusion of Steven and Connie. They are first formed in the episode 'Alone Together', and appear several more times throughout the series. They are the protagonist of the episode 'Jungle Moon', which is the only episode of Steven Universe in which Steven himself does not appear.

Fandom

Reception

Stevonnie holds a special place in the hearts of many fans for being a relatively early example of nonbinary representation on TV. Stevonnie uses they/them pronouns, and is intersex and nonbinary. While Stevonnie has received criticism for not being "ideal" nonbinary representation (they are a literal fusion of a boy and a girl, and only exist because of a quirk of alien physiology), their inclusion in the show has resulted in much positive fan and media attention.

Pairings

Stevonnie is often seen in Connverse works, making them the embodiment of a ship and not part of the a themself. The most common pairing involving Stevonnie as half of a pairing is Lapis Lazuli/Stevonnie, with 45 works on the AO3 as of August 2022, though most of these works seem to be from a small group of prolific writers. Inspired by Kevin's flirting with them in the episode 'Alone Together', there are a handful of works where Kevin and Stevonnie are shipped together (most of them involving dubious or nonexistent consent. There is some wank regarding whether Stevonnie should be shipped with anyone, as they are composed of two children.
